Root canals from Gawler’s reliable dental team
Root canals are required when the pulp inside a tooth becomes infected and involves removing the damaged nerve and tissue from the tooth, replacing these with a dental filling. Our dentists at Gawler & Districts Dental Care can perform root canal therapy for patients throughout the Gawler region and surrounding suburbs.
If the nerve of your tooth is infected, then this is often indicated by toothache or hyper-sensitivity, so if you’re experiencing tooth pain, it’s best to contact your dentist as soon as possible. We can then examine the tooth, and if a root canal is required, our dentists can perform the procedure ensuring a pain-free experience.
What root canals involve
If you need root canal treatment, then we’ll clear the infected tooth of its pulp and nerve, removing the bacteria and filling the space with our dental materials. This will secure the remaining tooth, as well as protecting the teeth around it, and will avoid the need for an extraction. A dental crown will then be fitted on top to further protect and strengthen the tooth.
During root canal treatment, some patients may wish to have IV sedation, which we can discuss with you beforehand and administer as required, to help reduce anxiety. Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is another alternative for nervous patients.

In some cases, multiple visits may be necessary to remove all of the pulp, so we’ll make sure you know exactly what to expect and are aware of this before treatment begins.
